Horiprog

Musically, this project was meant to be a little adventurous.

At first, I thought I would get into progressive rock territory and I wanted to use all the technical means I possesed to get there, and eventually, I landed elsewhere. Where? I don’t know…

Although there were great moments of doubt and long periods of nothing working out, I had fun working hard at it. The fact that I had no due date, and started to work on three totally different projects at the same time in March 2014; I finished all of Horiprog music in June 2021.

I started it all lying on a lounge chair or sitting with my feet in the sand, bathing in the the sun to the sound of the waves. Pencil and paper in hand, for twelve days, I drew different rhythms every day. I imagined an A, sometimes a B, and a few times, a C every day.

The following year, I went back on vacation and there, I added chord sequences and tonalities, which in return will become the 12 instrumental pieces.

Slowly, over the years, I put the melodies on paper or during winters, I had fun recording the drums, the bass and another instrument for the chords, to finally add the melody and counterpoints … everything was done with virtual instruments except drums and percussions.

Much of the writing and design of this project took place in a sunny and relaxed atmosphere. However, the recording, arrangements, mixing and mastering ended up. being very laborious…
